I watched the Republican debate a few weeks ago on the Fox News channel and I have given myself enough time to think about the candidates and how successful they may be to become president. Given the current field, I don't think any of them won't get to work in the oval office.
Ultimately, I don't think any of the current round of candidates will win, especially the media favorite, Mitt Romney, simply because they are all in the race too early, and none of them have drummed up much enthusiasm. I believe Mr Romney will not be the Republican nominee because he is the current front runner. (For the same reason, this is why i don't think Hillary Clinton will make her party's nomination.) Call it a weak argument, but over the last several elections, the front runner, or media favorite, ended up getting outshined by someone nobody has ever heard of. Mr Clinton, Mr Bush, and Mr Kerry, are but recent examples that I use as supporting evidence.
Fred Thomspon may be a stout conservative, but he too, will most likely not get the nomination either. My reasoning for why Mr Thompson will probably not be well understood because it has to do with generational archetypes. Like John McCain, Mr Thompson is part of the generation that was born during 1925-1942, the Silent generation. The Silents are the current manifestation of the "Artist" generational archetype. All Artist generations are born during periods of great strife, or Crisis, such crisis periods in American history are the Great Depression and WWII, Civil War and Reformation, Revolutionary War and the period leading up to it, and the King Phillips War. All of these periods lasted roughly a generation in length, certainly plenty enough time for a generation to be born.
To get to the point, never in American history has any person born into the Artist archetype has been elected president. McCain (born 1936) and Thompson (1942) are both members of the Silent generation, and therefore, have little chance today of winning the presidency. This is based purely on historical information and not on any qualities of their character. Although I will say, for the record, that I despise John McCain for his actions related to the "Gang of 14", Campaign Finance Reform, and this recent charade of an amnesty bill. I also believe McCain is mentally unstable.
The next president will be born of the Boomer generation. There is still plenty of opportunity for lots of candidates to step forward, in either party, to run for the presidency, who are probably far more qualified and presidential material than the current round of candidates.
